Whulge

60 x 30 Encaustic on Wood

After two months of working on this piece, I was finally able to deliver it to its forever home! A good friend commissioned me to create a piece that captured his family's affinity to the views, landscapes and colors from their Camano Island home. "Whulge" (x̌ʷə́lč), is the Coast Salish name for the Puget Sound meaning "salt water" and also denotes the sound that the waves make as they wash over the shoreline. The title celebrates the family's connection to the land but also honors its indigenous inhabitants.
